Summer Spanish with Ms. Cindy is an affordable, small, intentional, outdoor language program designed for learners who thrive through movement, real-world experiences, and meaningful connection.
Summer Spanish blends Spanish language immersion, culture, history, and practical life skills through relevant and engaging weekly themes in a place-based learning environment.

Summer Spanish with Ms. Cindy uses a research-based, age-appropriate approach grounded in second language acquisition (SLA) research and Montessori principles.
Learners are surrounded by meaningful Spanish input that is made understandable through movement, visuals, routines, storytelling, real-life context, and authentic opportunities for output across a weekly theme. Learners acquire language best when it is comprehensible, contextual, and purposeful - this is deeply in alignment with Montessori education.
Modern research in second language acquisition shows that children acquire language most effectively when they:
In Summer Spanish with Ms. Cindy, Ms. Cindy uses Spanish as the language of action rather than as an abstract subject. This aligns with research showing that comprehension and confidence develop before accuracy, and that forced output can actually slow and hinder acquisition.
Learners are never, ever required to speak before they are ready. Some children begin speaking quickly; others listen, observe, and absorb before joining in. Both paths are expected and respected.
Because instruction is multi-sensory, contextual, and responsive, beginners are fully included from day one. At the same time, children with prior Spanish experience continue to grow by using the language more deeply and authentically.
This approach reflects current research in SLA, including findings that:

Summer Spanish runs Monday-Thursday from 9am-1pm. In my professional and personal experience managing Boise outdoor summer camps for the past four years, I have found children attending outdoor summer programs - especially ones where we are walking - are absolutely exhausted post-lunch time and very little learning can actually take place - especially in the heat. I have also found Fridays to always be under-attended or under-enrolled as many families choose to spend long weekends camping, at the lake, or recreating.
Utilizing a 9am-1pm run time with a lunch and recess from 12-1pm, allows us to optimize the Montessori 3 hour work window and provide an opportunity for lunch and dedicated play/movement. They'll be mentally and physically exhausted by 1pm and they can come home and relax quietly with a book, legos, a nap, or a movie while you complete your work day. For families who require additional after care due to work constraints, optional after care is available from 1-4pm weather and air quality permitting.
Summer Spanish is approximately $200/week per child. This cost includes a daily nutritious snack, all materials, as well as any field trip expenses.
Optional After-Care is available for $35 per day, per child - weather & air-quality permitting.
Spots are limited to keep the experience personal and high-quality.
I encourage families to register early, as weeks often fill quickly.
No prior Spanish experience is required.
